Dear Friends,
Fall is here!
Mornings and days are cooler. Leaves are falling, with a few shrubs and trees already looking bare. It's early for falling leaves. And it's been a whacky summer season of changing wet and dry weather.
I often get asked, "What do you think this fall's weather will be like?". And, "What will this winter's weather be like?".
My response is always, "It's uncertain".
That's been my response every year since 2014 when Alan and I became the stewards and owners of Bend of Ivy Lodge (BOI). I moved into Bend of Ivy's Farmhouse in late July with basically just an air mattress due to a changed transition plan. Alan (my then life partner and now hubby) and our furniture arrived the next month.
Life can be uncertain. So is forecasting the weather.
According to a September 3 article from the Asheville Citizen Times,"The Old Farmer's Almanac is predicting a chilly winter in North Carolina this year with plenty of precipitation — but the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration disagrees.
Though the almanac claims an 80% accuracy rate on long-term weather forecasts, the organization also admits its 2023 predictions were significantly less accurate than this usual claimed rate".The Old Farmer's Almanac has predicted the weather since 1792 and covers the US in 18 Regions. Both cover our Western NC area, Region 4.
The Almanac predicts for this winter that warmer than normal weather is expected in our Western NC area, with coolest periods expected in late November, late January and late February. I say "It's uncertain."What is certain ... when you are present you can enjoy your moments, life, nature, relationships, and experiences more. I find that's true for me. Change is certain. In life and weather's uncertainty.
As Mahatma Gandhi said 'Be the change you wish to see in the world'.
With gratitude,
Susan
